This one photo is many years in the making. What d

This one photo is many years in the making. What do I mean by that - it surely only took a few seconds? Well, several years of honing my camera skills so I knew whats settings to use, 10 years of saving for a van so I could travel like I do, 4 underwater camera housings that I couldn’t get to grips with, years of getting used to being in the cold water and buying wetsuits that didn't fit, the 50 trips to the hebrides where it just rained and don't even get me started on the image disasters and fails.

It wasn't luck that brought me to Harris this sunny day. I had this vision over 20 years ago and I am now fulfilling it. my message is - don't get disheartened when things don't work immediately. Patience and persistence are rare qualities that will eventually get you where you want to be.

Very grateful to be in Harris!. Isle of Harris loveliness and a bit on gratitude.

22 nights in July will be spent in my van. it has

22 nights in July will be spent in my van. it has become part of my lifestyle and a means to live like I do. I am pretty sure I couldn't have afforded 22 nights of accommodation in peak season in Scotland anyway! But more than that, it allows me to rest in between travels and carry what I need for my work. Check out my stories today as I show you around my van and how I manage. Living in a van does 2 things:

1/ It makes you realise how little you actually need in life. How simple can equal happiness.
2/ It connects you to gratitude and not for the reason you may think. When you get home and have a lovely hot shower and flip the switch on the kettle you are so incredubly excited at these simple things we just take for granted every day. I love taking away the basics for a while just for that buzz of gratitude.

I am spending a few happy hours going through my images and getting them ready for gallery submissions and competition entries. I actually love this time even though I don't really like editing. Finishing images up to a high standard and ending up with a neat folder of images that I am proud of is an amazing feeling and actually very important.

In my Creative Haven membership, I am encouraging the members to enter the @naturallandscapeawards - for the process, not the result. I do not believe that we need to gain accolades or letters before our name to be happy and fulfilled in our work ...But if we begin to think of curating images for competition, social media, website portfolio, books etc as an amazing process of learning evolving, and understanding your work, it can be very powerful. Creation, not validation is the key.
