Something I’ve always wanted to do was to go over to Staffa and see Fingals cave so, when the weather looked like it was going to being unusually clear for the days ahead, I packed up the van and children and headed over to the Isle of Mull. With Calmacs recent reduction in prices and an easy short trip across from Oban, Mull is one of the most accessible islands on the Inner Hebrides. It was just fabulous to arrive on Mull in glorious warm sunshine, head down to the campsite at Fidden Bay, set up the barbecue and head off for a short swim in the cool water just beneath where we were parked.
After contacting Staffa Tours about a trip to Staffa, we were advised to take the tour which lands on Lunga for a few hours to give us a chance to sit with the puffins as well. It was the best bit of advice I’ve been given in a long time! I can only describe the experience as breathtaking. With one child suffering from an allergic reaction to the sun ( yes, really! ), we didn’t manage to walk the entire cliff face once we had landed. We were all just content to sit for 2 hours and have lunch surrounded by puffins. Incredible, beautiful birds with endearing faces which are amazing to watch. This has to be one of this years most memorable trips so far!
