I recently found a new hidden gem on Harris and this one has brought me back to my childhood days. The Sound of Harris is one of the best luxury self catering homes I have stayed in. Every detail has a reason, it is like stepping back in time to the fifties but is so much better with its personalised modern edge.

This is not your average impersonal designer home. Every detail has been carefully thought out and lovingly transported to the south of Harris by Rob and Carol, the down to earth owners of these wonderful homes.

The location is fantastic perched on a cliff with uninterrupted views over the sea, which is perfect for me as I can walk out my door over onto cliffs and set up my time-lapse of the sunset.

It is hard to choose what is my favourite feature of this home as there are so many to choose from. The Japanese bath that I could soak in for hours, the feather bed and duvet that creates a snuggly heaven so cosy I have to drag myself away from it or the beautiful wood burning stove in the corner of the living area.

Harris tweed highlights the lovingly restored furniture and the original 1930’s chandelier, which was carefully transported under Carol’s plane seat back from San Fransisco.

This home is personal and really reflects the way Rob and Carol want their guests to feel when they stay. Liveable luxury with unobtrusive extras such as binoculars, art supplies, books and a telescope make staying in this amazing cliff top gem special. All the small touches are a feast for the eyes, from the wall mounted plates to the charts of the Islands there is always another detail to admire. If there is one place I would love to return to stay in, it would be the Sound of Harris!
