Rackwick Bay on Hoy yesterday. One of those places that makes me feel instantly peaceful. I wonder if its tied up with my experience of this place. Having spent an incredible 4 days in van there this year for no reason other than I wanted to experience it and photograph it. Now, when I go back I feel that same peace I felt back then. A sense of time and space and disconnect. I would love to be back there in the winter for a few days alone so will pop that on my list!

Freedom is one of the most important things for me

Freedom is one of the most important things for me. Hvaing the physical and mental ability to travel to the places that really inspire and uplift me. This winter that means Orkney, Tiree, Harris, Orkney, Islay and Harris.

Having the ability to photograph these islands this winter means the world to me. That has been years in the making. Finding peace within myself to be able to cope with being alone, self awareness to understand that is how I work best, financial planning to allow for it, business building to make it happen and finding a supportive partner who understands I need to do this. It is nowhere near simply being lucky. I encourage everyone to find their thing, their place of freedom and then start building and working towards it. Because one thing I can tell you is that it feels absolutely incredible 🙂

As the years go on the more I realise how at home I am in wild weather. I never used to allow myself to spend anything on myself, so getting used to buying really good outdoor clothing has taken a while. But now I realise it makes the difference between being able to stay out and shoot or not. Today was wet, windy and rather wild and I enjoyed every moment. There's a moment when we turn around and realise that we have abandoned our own dream and goals in the name of caring or investing in others. The moment that hits you, it is almost like a tornado of loss. I speak from experience... But this is the start of the process of recovery, of self-awareness, of allowing that creativity that you are naturally meant for into your life. And that can be life-changing.

I sit here in Orkney writing this in preparation for a creative retreat based around opening up creativity with @wildatartscotland and @lesleylintottabstracts . A subject I feel so passionate about because of my own journey.

So grateful for my experiences, so happy to be leading a creatively fulfilled lifestyle and still in awe of the fact that I can now help others on their path.

Swimming in Orkney … perfect conditions and beautiful light. It was a great example of how I love mixing my love of water and swimming with being creative. Today the light was just so amazing I had to capture it. I’ve left my underwater housing at home thinking I wouldn’t have time to use it on this trip.
