Night timelapse photography at the Callanish Stones

Night timelapse photography at the Callanish Stones

by Margaret Soraya | Jan 8, 2017 | Healing art, Scottish Islands, Timelapse

There’s nothing like the complete lack of mobile signal and wifi on the Outer Hebrides to make you sit back and just enjoy being. My favourite place ever is on these remote Islands off the west coast of Scotland. They are a little slice of pretty much undiscovered...

My specialty at the moment is putting weight on wi My specialty at the moment is putting weight on without even eating 🙂

But I have learned never to let how I look stop me from showing up. It's been a long process of self-acceptance - why does it only really happen as get older though?

I'm no longer worried about going live with no make-up, having slept in my van for days, being photographed in a wetsuit or swimsuit without the "perfect" figure. We need more imperfect ( normal ) women showing up happy as they, illuminated by what they love rather than by make up or fancy clothes that hide their imperfections.

We need to be teaching our young girls to love themselves as they are and that beauty comes from someone lit out by doing what they love.

My creative brain has been pushed aside this week My creative brain has been pushed aside this week by admin, planning and housework. I long for the creative spark to allowed total freedom again. But I know it’s all about seasons. Seasons of work, of rest, of family time. I know that the creative side will take over when it has space again. Usually on a trip away. And this is why I schedule and plan these trips into my year. I remember being told by @segeriusbruce to plan my year on a big piece of paper. So that’s what I do. I have times where I’m running workshops/ times when I’m home working on the business side and times which are dedicated to travelling and creating freely. As long as that year is balanced it all adds up to a good life. So I’m heading for some exciting trips and time off in June which will make the hard work done at home in may all be worth it. Do you plan your creative times? If not, start now! #creativeretreat #tiree #scottishislands #timealone #creativityforlife #landscapephotographer

My book design is through! It is such a special bo My book design is through! It is such a special book as my dear friend who I met at art college @chloe.heuch wrote the words for it. She is now a published author and talented writer. Her intro about me is so touching. She obviously knows me too well:-) Here is a section of it as a taster. The book will be available on my website in a few weeks, along with a calendar to match.

"At art college, amidst the bustle and noise of many different personalities, Margaret Soraya stood out. It was her gentleness and stillness that drew me to her. It was also her quiet self-assurance. Margaret knew what she wanted to do. She wasn’t swayed or dazzled by college tutors or the other more extrovert students. She knew: Big canvasses and lots of oil paint. And always, always, the water"

What do you do on those days when it all feels jus What do you do on those days when it all feels just a bit too much? Sometimes I just get through the day, sometimes I manage to get out walking which always helps. And the other times, it makes me so incredibly creative, it's almost worth feeling so dreadful! Adversity can be a powerful thing. Beautiful music by @blissbeginswithin
